Death Race 2008

And, speaking of Jason Statham – as I seem to be doing quite a lot, lately – here's the trailer for the upcoming remake-in-name-only of Death Race, directed by Paul WS Anderson:

Slicker. Maybe. Bigger-budgeted. Definitely. But better?

The original was a clever, satirical black comedy, while the remake appears to be a by-the-numbers action flick.

I'll probably enjoy it, but it doesn't look to have half the wit or imagination of the 1975 original.

Jason Statham and Ian McShane! What more could you want? (A reasonable screenplay that captures the essence of the original I guess).

Looks more like a remake of The Running Man with cars than a remake of Deathrace 2000.

The original is one of Carradine's best moves, with a young Sly Stallone as the major heavy.

Do you have any issues of Deathrace 2020, the comicbook sequel to the movie?

This one doesn't look too bad. I like Jason Statham. I still have a bit of a soft heart even for the first one though.

I do like that original (and one of my fave shout-outs in Death Proof is Sheriff McGraw's reference to Frankenstein), but I'll probably enjoy the heck outta this movie. If only because I'm such a massive Car Wars fan :D
