Snappy Patter

The problem with hardboiled fiction and film is that it leaves me feeling hopelessly conversationally inadequate.
I wanna spit out terse, snappy dialogue like that!
The only time I ever actually stole a good line from fiction was a swipe from a Frederick Nebel short story. I screwed something up and was being taken to task by one of a group of friends. I apologised and they wouldn't let up.
So I responded, "Hey, I said I was sorry. You want me to set it to music?"
